Hi Sal- yeah- I heard nice things about the convention. I was in Mexico and couldn't attend. All is well in Boston.

Sal Ascolese

August 19, 2009

Hi Matt,
It's Sal Ascolese, Berklee class of '81.
Last week the National Flute Association had their annual convention. It was held in NYC. I attended all 4 days and couldn't get enough of that wonderful event. What an outstanding, well organized show! Sir James Galway was honored with a life time achievement award. I attended a 3 hour master class with him along with various flute choirs, recitals, workshops, etc. I was like a kid at Disney World! On Friday, August 14th, we set a new Guinness Book record for the world's largest flute ensemble, conducted by Sir James Galway, to commemorate his 70th birthday. (I played my GUO Grenaditte flute, that I absolutely LOVE.)
I am a high school music director in NJ. I can't wait to get back to school so I can tell my students all about the convention.
I hope all is well up in Boston.

Lalo Rojas

April 14, 2009

Sorry, it's Guo not Guy :OJ

Lalo Rojas

April 14, 2009

Hey Mr. Marvuglio!
This is Lalo, the sax player from CMPR.
I've been very interested during the last months in finding the best way for me to practice and learn, focusing not in the action, but in the brain process that makes the action possible, so what you talked about in our school has been extremely compatible and inspiring.
Thank you for sharing your clear and right ideas.

Other thing I noticed is that you have a very gentle, mellow sound that I really loved, with the warmness and color of wood, but with a metal fatness and resonation... I know it's YOUR sound, not the flute's sound, but I'm wondering if my brother in Costa Rica who plays flute could also benefit from getting a similar instrument.
Would you please tell me again about it so I can find one for him?
Note: I've been reading about a Guy grenaditte flute, but I don't know if that's what you are playing.

Thank you once again and best regards,

Lalo Rojas.

I was wondering if we are related. My grandfather was Anthony Marvuglio a,violinist. My mother is one of his daughters, Gloria. They lived mostly in Brooklyn then moved to Rosedale,Queens. I know my granfather had sisters.
Just wondering, Gloria

Hi Matt,
We have relocated to Las Cruces NM! It's so beautiful here. Travis just unpacked his drums, now I've got to get him back into lessons. I have a few leads. My daughter-in-law is the event planner for The City of Las Cruces & gave us a lead & of course Neil from Academy of Drums gave us another. Well if you ever come out this way let us know! We be chillin' at the desert!

Hi Matt,
you probably already know about bluesbunny.com, but check out what they say about Big Baby Ernie! They just came back from across the Pond. Their drummer is Bryan from The Drum Academy. Evidently they were a big hit, it was said they are, "Muscianship of the Highest Order!" & "The Real Deal for Sure." Thought you might check it out.
Enjoy,

I think Neil might be out of town. I'll contact him for you. Bright Moments!

Ael Ziig

August 30, 2006

I most certainly do know "Bright Moments!" In fact, RahsaanRoland Kirk is one of my all-time favorite musical hero's. I sent an e-mail to neilkrane@aol.com about your flute, but I haven't gotten a response yet. Was it expensive and are they available for us common folk? :) BTW, the beginning Latin phrase you played with Ricardo sounded very familiar, what was that? To me, it sounded like a traditional Montuno line...? Also, I ordered some of your CDs and I'mlooking forward to hearing more and I hope you get around to making that DVD too.

Take care,
Ael

matt

August 29, 2006

Hi Ael, at this time I don't have a DVD on playing the flute. Hey, what a great idea! The salsa duet at the end of the DVD is an original by Ricardo. Do you know the Roland Kirk, "Bright Moments?" All of the best to you my friend.

Ael Ziig

August 28, 2006

Hi Matt,
I was pleasantly surprised after purchasing the DVD you did with Ricardo Munzon, "Basic Afro-Cuban Rhythms...." The salsa duet with you at the end of the DVD was awesome! I also play flutes and percussion. I was curious to know if you have a DVD on playing the flute, especially for Jazz and Latin music? Hope you are well and safe. BTW, love that Matit flute of yours too.

Thanks and many bright moments!
Ael

August 24, 2006

Hi Matt,
I wanted to let you know I got Travis the Berkely Practice Method for Drummers & he is enjoying it tremendously! He won't see his Teacher Neil until after Labor Day because of the Drum Academy moving to Fischer Blvd., but he can't wait to show him what he's been doing!
I wish when we were in Connecticut about a month ago we could have looked you up so Travis could meet you, but our plans to go to Boston were changed when the tragedy with the tunnel happened, so we stayed in Mystic till our vacation was over.

Appologies because i don't write a good english language.
I'm a french man from Paris...
Also, i play jazz guitar in be bop style...
J'espère un jour assister à l'un de vos concerts, ou master class.
